High Toughness Mineral Filled Polypropylene

The role of mineral filling and the realization of high toughness

Improve stiffness: Mineral particles, acting as reinforcement, are dispersed in the PP matrix, forming a rigid network.

Improve process: Certain minerals (such as talc powder) can enhance melt liquidity.

Toughening elastomer: Adding POE (polyolefin elastomer), EPDM (Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer), and other elastomer to create island structures that cause silver streaks and shear bands, absorbing impact energy.

Interface optimization: Surface treatment of mineral fillers (such as silane coupling agents) enhances the bonding strength between the filler and the PP matrix, reducing stress concentration.

Synergistic formulation: Balancing the amount of mineral fill (usually 20-40%) with the ratio of toughening agents to avoid excess filler leading to brittleness.

Typical Applications

ACCOM's High Toughness Mineral Filled Polypropylene is used in a wide range of applications, and I have listed the following for your reference.


Bumpers and Impact Beams. The impact strength of pure PP notched is only 2-5 kJ/m², and it can withstand ± 50 kJ/m² impact energy (such as Chevrolet Bolt bumpers). Talcum powder filling (10-20%) increases the heat deflection temperature (HDT) from 100°C to over 130°C, adapting to the surrounding environment of the engine.

Dashboard bracket/door panel frame. Rigidity (flexural modulus 3-5 GPa) is comparable to ABS, but the cost is reduced by 30-40%. Mineral fillers inhibit warpage and improve assembly accuracy.

Inner drum/shell of washing machine. The shrinkage rate of mineral-filled PP (talc 15% + calcium carbonate 5%) <0.5%, which is much lower than that of pure PP (1.5-2%), to avoid uneven wall thickness of the inner cylinder. The addition of a nucleating agent (e.g., DBS) can increase the gloss to more than 70 and replace ABS.

Air conditioning fan blades. high rigidity (flexural modulus 4 GPa) to reduce resonance noise, filler of high toughness mineral filled polypropylene to improve fatigue resistance, service life of more than 100,000 times. Plastic pallets: The compression set of mineral-filled PP (calcium carbonate 20%) <5%, which is better than HDPE pallets (>10%). The cost is 60% lower than that of metal pallets, and there is no need for anti-rust maintenance.

Chemical storage tank. Talc filled PP is better chemically resistant than PA6 (e.g. 96% sulfuric acid resistance) and 40% less dense.

Battery module shell. The thermal conductivity of mineral-filled PP+30% glass fiber is increased to 1.5 W/m·K, while maintaining the notched impact > 10 kJ/m². UL94 V-0 flammability rating, replacing SMC composites.

Charging pile housing. High fluidity mineral-filled PP (MFR 20-30 g/10min) enables thin-wall molding (wall thickness 1.5 mm) and shortens the production cycle.

Agricultural irrigation pipes. The environmental stress cracking resistance (ESCR) value of high toughness mineral filled polypropylene (wollastonite 10%) > 500h, which is much higher than that of pure PP (<100h). After adding anti-ultraviolet agents (such as carbon black), the service life is more than 15 years.

Seedling hole tray. The hole deformation rate of high-rigidity mineral-filled PP is <2%, which is better than HDPE (>5%).
